Mike Sikorsky

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Sikorsky. Many are aware that Mike was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year. He refused to give in to this debilitating illness and continued to travel, call square dances, and make future plans. Last weekend he called a dance in Washington State and was in route to Charlottesville, VA where he had planned dances in Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. While on the flight east, he became ill on the plane and after landing in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was taken by ambulance to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center where he was placed in ICU. His health continued to deteriorate throughout the week and Mike passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 20. He was surrounded by family and friends that helped him transition to his next journey. Mike devoted his life to the square dance community. He called for 54 years and had a unique ability to connect to his dancers and fellow callers. He was a great caller, teacher, mentor, entertainer, and friend to all whom he came into contact. There will be a huge void in the square dance community as we adjust to life without Mike. Please remember his family during this difficult time.

Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal

Love leaves a memory that no one can steal
